We know of Engineering as the “Child of
Science”. It is an application of Science. The Department of
Basic Science and Humanities strives to instill the scientific
tempts and the spirit of enquiry in students. The Department
prepares them for the advanced technical endeavor of the
undergraduate course. It encourages students to understand and
therefore to apply the physical laws to the development of
their fields of study. The department offers courses in
engineering mathematics, engineering physics, E.S., M.E. and
English with in the engineering curricula.
Basic
Sciences and Humanities Department Comprises Mathematics,
Physics. Chemistry, English, Environmental studies and
the Physical Education.
The
State-of-the-art CDCS Lab is a wing of the Basic Sciences and
Humanities Department.
Centre
for Development of Communication
Skills(CDCS)
The
College, realizing that students should have good
communication skills, has started "Centre for Development of
Communication Skills(CDCS)".CDCS aims at making students speak
and write simple and correct English confidently initially and
training them in soft skills later.
CDCS
provides GRE,TOEFL training to students.
The
Centre is provided with a library of about 350 books and
adequate number of CDROMS and audio cassettes related to
Engilsh language,70 Computers with multimedia facility and
internet connectivity, a OHP, TV, VCR and an Interactive
Communication Lab.
Periodically
workshop on communication skills and counselling on Group
Discussions, Interview and Personality Development are being
organized.
Software
from Globanena is also being provided. Digital Mentor
Consisting of eight units is installed and it is of great use
to the students who intend to improve their Knowledge Grammar,
Reasoning etc.
Mathematics:
Mathematics,
as it is well known plays a pivotal role for the understanding
application of all branches of engineering; with out a sound
knowledge of mathematical techniques, studying engineering
course in vain. Likewise the study of physics is essential for
understanding the nature of materials.
PHYSICS
The
Basic Sciences and Humanities Department has an Engineering
Physics laboratory, which was established with a cost of
2,76,000/- and it fulfils the needs of IB.Tech Mechanical
engineering students. Ten experiments are offered to the
students in the fields of Waves & Oscillations, Magnetism,
Optics and Optical fibres. For smooth progress of light
experiments, this laboratory is provided with dark room
facility.
The
following are the List of Experiments offered in the
Engineering Physics lab.
1.
Determination
of Rigidity modulus of a given material - Torsional
Pendulum.
2.
Sonometer
- Verification of laws of vibrations of Stretched
strings.
3.

Apart
from the above experiments this laboratory is provided with Rs
14000/-worth models for Crystal structures Demonstration
,optical fibre demonstration kit and Demonstration of thermo
electric genaration effect,Peltier effects.

PHYSICAL
EDUCATION
A
Healthy Mind resides in a Healthy Body. Keeping this maxim in
mind, our college has provided a Shuttle court, Two Volley
ball courts, One Ball Badminton court ,Cricket field. Students
are also encouraged to play other Indoor games like T.T,
Carroms and Chess.
Students
had participated in various National, Inter-University, State
Level, District Level Competitions
